History

The 18th Century Inn is situated close to the field which witnessed the Battle Of Towton, England's bloodiest battle. Inside the pub you will find antiques and replica artefacts from the battlefield. The pub is ideally placed for the people who visit the site to come into the pub for food and drink.

Although the present building was much modified and extended in the 18th Century the site goes back much further and a 'hosteler' of Barkston Ash, one Agnes de Bradeley, is noted in the poll records of 1370. A malt house used to sit directly opposite on the main road along with a pump and water trough, and the present day car park was the site of a large stables and/or barn. The thick stone walls and oak beams speak much of the past and the blazing fire is a welcome site on any winter evening.
